MCSR in the Classroom, Spring 07
Thus far in the 2007 spring semester, MCSR is supporting over 100 class accounts over 5 course offerings at multiple Mississippi universities. At Delta State University, Jennifer Zielgelmayer's CIS 210 Computer Programming Fundamentals students are using the the UM Research Server for Javascript programming assignments, while Jerry Kandies' CIS 370 Operating Systems students are using willow for Unix programming exercises. At Ole Miss, Jie Tang's CIS490 Web Programming students are using Unix, PHP, Java, and MySQL on willow; Milam Aiken's MIS 609 E-Commerce and Internet Programming
students are using PHP, Python, and MySQL on willow; and Dawn Wilkins' ENGR 692 Parallel Programming students will be using MPI on mimosa and sweetgum, and OpenMP on sweetgum.
Since 2001, MCSR has supported many hundreds of instructional accounts to students in over 72 courses spanning 5 Mississippi universities. We recognize that each university in Mississippi has a unique set of needs when it comes to access to high performance computing systems. For those institutions that are between heavy HPC research projects, we offer student access to stable Unix and Linux systems featuring not only parallel programming libraries but also a variety of compilers and math/scientific software applications. In addition to the free instructional accounts, which are good for one semester, and may be extended or converted to research accounts upon request, MCSR consultants are available to assist you and your students in getting started in what might be an unfamiliar computing environment, to include coming to your class for an introductory workshop . If you require a compiler or software package that is not currently installed on one of our systems, we will be glad to discuss the possibility of acquiring it in time for your course offering.
