Abaqus 6.6-3 on redwood at MCSR

To run standard Abaqus jobs on redwood
the user should enter:
abaqus job=myjob.inp
where myjob.inp is the name of the input file. For instance, to use the file beam.inp located at /usr/local/appl/abaqus/examples/, first copy that file into your working directory:
cp /usr/local/appl/abaqus/examples/beam.inp
then run Abaqus like this:
abaqus beam.inp
You may ignore this message:
ABAQUS Warning: The .inp extension has been removed from the job identifier
Abaqus will create several output and log files in the directory.

To run Abaqus Viewer on Redwood
You should ensure that you are connecting from a machine that is running X Windows or an X Windows simulation package, such as XWin-32 for Windows, for which the University of Mississippi maintains a campus-wide site license. If running XWin-32 from a PC, make sure that you have added redwood.mcsr.olemiss.edu to the X-Host list on the Security tab of the X-Win32 Configuration tool. If you are using secure shell to connect to redwood from your PC, make sure that you have checked the "Tunnel X11 Connections" box from the Settings->Profile Settings->Tunneling secure shell window. You may also need to set your DISPLAY environment variable in your redwood login session to the IP address of the computer you are connecting from. See the XWin-32 at MCSR page for more details.

Once you are comfortable that your local computer can display X Windows from client programs on redwood, then launch the Abaqus viewer:
From the unix prompt, enter
abaqus viewer
You will then see a message like this one on the command line:
ABAQUS License Manager checked out the following license(s):
"viewer" version 6.4 from sweetgum
<2 out of 3 licenses remain available>.
and an Abaqus Viewer window should pop up within a few seconds (it may be minimized).
From the Viewer, you should then be able to open any Abaqus output database files from previous runs, such as the beam.odb file created from running standard Abaqus in the example above.
