The University of Mississippi MATLAB Site License
Under The University of Mississippi's MATLAB site license, UM employees and students may install and use MATLAB & licensed tools on computers owned by UM or the employees/students themselves. MATLAB use on clusters
on the UM campus, including those administered by MCSR, such as sequoia is limited to single-node jobs of up to 8 cores, and then only to employees and students of The University of Mississippi.
The site license, which became active in April 2009, is currently being financed by contributions from:
The Center for Manufacturing Excellence
The National Center for Computational Hydroscience and Engineering
The National Center for Physical Acoustics
The UM Office of Research and Sponsored Programs
The UM School of Engineering (student home use portion)
The UM Department of Physics (student portion)
The Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College (student home use portion)
Software installation packages for supported platforms (Windows, MAC, Linux, and Solaris) may be downloaded directly from The MathWorks Web site. Each prospective user should create an individual account at mathworks.com, where you will be asked to supply the respective activation code (employee or student) for the UM site license. WebID-authenticated UM students and employees may access the activation codes, and download platform-specific installation instructions, from the myOleMiss Portal. Once signed into my.olemiss.edu, select the Student (or Employee) Tab, then the Tools & Resources sub-tab, followed by the Software folder, and the MATLAB item.
The installation process involves creating an online account at The MathWorks Web site: UM employees and students should use their assigned @olemiss.edu e-mail address for this account.
The following tools and toolboxes are included with the site license: MATLAB, Simulink, Bioinformatics, Control System, Curve Fitting, Data Acquisition, Image Processing, Instrument Control, Optimization, Signal Processing, SimMechanics, Stateflow, Statistics, Simscape, Symbolic Math, Neural Networks, Wavelet, MATLAB Compiler, Communications Toolbox, Filter Design, Fixed Point, Image Acquisition, Simulink Control Design, RF, & Parallel Computing.
Note that we DO NOT currently have a license for Distributed Computing Server, which is why multi-node cluster computations are not allowed. However, we are looking at the possibility of obtaining an evaluation license for the SUMMER-FALL 2009 timeframe. Mississippi researchers from institutions other than UM who are interested in having MATLAB or Mathematica available for highly parallel computation at MCSR are encouraged to contact us to discuss collaboration opportunities for funding a more comprehensive license.
