Ole Miss Online Parallel Programming Class Offered for 3 Hours Credit Summer 06

Computer Science (CSCI) 490: Introduction to Parallel Programming

Classes begin: May 30, 2006
Summer break: June 26-30, 2006
Last class date: July 26, 2006
Finals: July 27-28, 2006
Cost: $540 (same price for in-state or out-of-state residents)

Students will:

learn to write parallel computer programs for Distributed Memory and Shared Memory computing architectures, using Message Passing (MPI) and threads (OpenMP), respectively.
learn how to quantify the performance improvement of increasingly parallel versions of programs.
complete programming assignments on several supercomputers located at here at the Mississippi Center for Supercomputing Research (MCSR).
earn 3 hours credit in CSCI 490.

Prerequisites

Strong programming skills in either C/C++ (preferred), FORTRAN, or Java.
