Ole Miss Online Parallel Programming Class Offered for 3 Hours Credit Summer 06

Computer Science (CSCI) 490: Introduction to Parallel Programming

Classes begin: May 30, 2006
Summer break: June 26-30, 2006
Last class date: July 26, 2006
Finals: July 27-28, 2006
Cost: $540 (same price for in-state or out-of-state residents)
Syllabus (doc)

Students will:

  • learn to write parallel computer programs for Distributed Memory and Shared Memory computing architectures, using Message Passing (MPI) and threads (OpenMP), respectively.
  • learn how to quantify the performance improvement of increasingly parallel versions of programs.
  • complete programming assignments on several supercomputers located at here at the Mississippi Center for Supercomputing Research (MCSR).
  • earn 3 hours credit in CSCI 490.

Prerequisites

Strong programming skills in either C/C++ (preferred), FORTRAN, or Java.
