Supercomputing Consultant Taner Pirim Moving on from MCSR

Taner joined the MCSR consultant staff in Spring of 2001. At that time, Taner already had a Masters degree in Civil Engineering, and was pursuing an advanced degree in Production Operations Management in the UM School of Business. That pursuit reached its culmination in the Summer of 2006, when Taner received his Ph.D. degree in Business Administration, majoring in Production and Operations Management and minoring in Management Information Systems. Later that year, Taner was promoted to the Supercomputer Consultant II. Meanwhile, Taner's wife Birsel was also earning her Ph.D. in Finance. Birsel has now taken a position on the faculty of the University of Illinois, and so with their relocation to Champaign/Urbana area, we say farewell to both, and a special thanks to Taner for his seven years of dedicated service to MCSR.

Taner handled much of the day-to-day consulting work of answering questions and assisting users with computational problems. His knowledge, experience, enthusiasm, and trouble-shooting skills will be hard to replace. Try we must, however, and so we are in the process of interviewing candidates for this position. We hope to have Taner's "replacement" in place by July 2008.

Taner will be less and less available to answer questions as we move towards his last day at the end of the month, and transition to a new, Tanerless support posture. Meanwhile, his e-mail address is still the same, if you want to wish him well, or have any MCSR business with Taner that you'd like to bring to closure.

Good luck, Taner! We will miss you, bud.
