MCSR offers free supercomputing accounts to qualifying students, not only for research, but also for individual instructional use. In addition, since 2000, MCSR has provided free class accounts in support of over 84 courses spanning 5 Mississippi universities.

MCSR consultants provide tutorials and in-person seminars on a variety of computing topics for researchers and students. Our E-newsletter, the Parallel-O-Gram, provides computing tips and updates to our research user base. We also provide tours of the Supercomputing Center on the Oxford campus for individuals and class groups, including primary and secondary school students. Consultants also attend career days at area high schools.

Each spring, MCSR sponsors a special subtrack on High Performance Computing in the Division of Math, Computer Science, and Statistics at the yearly meeting of the Mississippi Academy of Sciences, and encourages student presentations on related topics. In 2005, MCSR coordinated the participation by a team of 10 Mississippi High School teachers and University Professors in the Supercomputing Education Outreach Program.

MCSR consultants, along with UM IT staff members, offer a weekly Computing Camp mini-seminar series to better acquaint UM students (& faculty) with the research computing environments available through MCSR and the UM IT department.

Finally, MCSR generally employs 2 or 3 part-time graduate and undergraduate assistants, providing excellent, supervised work experience in an HPC environment, and a great launching point for professional careers in information science.

If you are interested in getting your hands wet in a high performance computing environment, and are associated with one of Mississippi's eight public universities, please let us know by emailing assist at olemiss.edu, from your University issued email account.
