Spring Services Highlights

In Feb/March/April, MCSR consultants fielded a wide variety of calls from researchers at six IHLs, covering topics from MPI to IMSL to Gaussian to PVM. Consultants also assisted several researchers with specific system administration tasks. Some highlights:

  • For Dr. Threlkeld in the UM Biology Department, student consultants installed SAS, a high-end statistics package.
  • For John Furr, a UM doctoral student in medicinal chemistry, student consultants reinstalled IRIX and installed gcc, a C compiler, on his Silicon Graphics workstation.
  • For Mona Norcum, a professor of biochemistry at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, consultants upgraded secure shell and installed gcc on her SGI workstation.
  • For Dr. Stephen Davis, a UM professor of chemistry, consultants assisted with installation of computational chemistry packages on his SGI workstation.
Full-time and student consultants also taught seminars on Unix, Statistics, Email, and MPI on the UM campus.

As a reminder, we are available to teach on-demand seminars for your classes, research teams, or campus high performance computing community, covering topics of MCSR relevance. Please coordinate with us somewhat in advance, especially for off-campus visits.
