MCSR Account Manager Enhancements

by J. Hale

The Online MCSR Account Manager is your tool for requesting accounts on MCSR systems, and also for keeping our records current with your latest email address, grants, and publications. We use this email address to send important information such as disk usage alerts, problems with your PBS jobs, advisories about systems availability, e-newsletters like this one, and invitations to participate in seminars and workshops. We want all interested parties to be able to see how productive MCSR researchers are being, and so it is important that you login to the MCSR Account Manager at least twice per year to keep your information current. To that end, we have started sending automated email reminders to all MCSR researchers whose information is more than 6 months old. If you receive one of these reminders, it will contain summary information about your grants which you can simply "OK" with one button click, without having to log in, and then we won't bug you again for 6 more months. If your information is out of date, another click will bring you to the MCSR Account Manager login page so that you can update your record.

Your MCSR Account Manager login/password is different from your account ID and passwords on the various MCSR systems. To make it easier for you to keep up with your MCSR Account Manager password, we have implemented two new functions. First, we have added a Forgot your password? link to the login page. If you select Forgot your password, you will be prompted to supply your MCSR Account Manager User ID (generally, this is the same as your University-issued numeric ID number) and email address. If the email address matches the email address we have recorded for you in our database, a new password will be emailed to your email address of record. Secondly, once logged in, you can go to the Edit Personal Info/Password screen and, if you like, choose to have your browser remember your password and automatically log you in the next time you return to the MCSR Account Manager. If you make this selection, the MCSR web page will always bring you one click away from a new MCSR web portal known as My MCSR Accounts.

The My MCSR Accounts portal allows you to see a listing of all of your MCSR system accounts at once. The following information is shown for each account:

  • Time/Date of last login
  • Account status
  • Amount and percentage of your disk quota used and available
  • Number and names of PBS queues for which your account is authorized
  • Number of PBS jobs you currently have running
  • Which nodes on the cluster each of your jobs is currently running on
There are also links for resetting your passwords on each of your accounts.

We have also simplified the Account Manager Menu to make it easier to add, edit, and delete grants and projects, and added the ability for registrants to associate themselves with an advisor; advisors will then be copied on account-related emails and requests.
