Sanger and Steel Family Plot, Oakwood Cemetery

The Sanger-Steel plot in Oakwood Cemetery, Joliet, Illinois, constitutes Lot 4 of Block 18, near an Indian mound in the center of the cemetery. Ten family members are buried there, over a span of ninety-five years. The plot is dominated by an obelisk erected in memory of L.P. Sanger and W.A. Steel. Tombstones mark the individual graves, which are maintained through an endowment by Frances Steel Robinson. Interments are listed below:

  5. Mrs. W.A. Steel [Frances Louise Sanger] (9 November 1842 - 30 July 1880, buried 1 August 1880).
  6. Mrs. H.A. Sanger [Mary Alice Tonner] (25 September 1844 - 19 December 1897, buried 21 December 1897), wife of Henry A. Sanger, Lorenzo's son).
  7. Henry A. Sanger (27 February 1845 - 8 February 1913, buried 10 February 1913), son of Lorenzo P. Sanger.
  8. Harriet S. Pickernell (25 June 1891 - February 1965, buried 2 March 1965), daughter of Sanger Steel.
  9. Oledine S. French [Emma Oledine Demmond] (21 October 1866 - 10 September 1949, buried 24 September 1949), wife of Sanger Steel.
  10. Sanger Steel (6 April 1863 - 10 January 1920, buried 14 January 1920), son of W.A. Steel.
