"Fasola" Electronic Mailing Lists

Fasola.org hosts two distinct mailing lists for shape-note music enthusiasts that include traditional singers as well as scholars and performing artists. Both are moderated lists, and serve different purposes. Information on both lists may be found on the World Wide Web at http://fasola.org/list_info.html

The singings list is moderated by Keith Willard, and is focused on "announcements of traditional singings, significant issues in singers lives (like births, deaths, serious illnesses), and singing reports." From June 1997 to January 1999 this list was called the fasola-singing list. An unmoderated fasola list, devoted to general discussion of Sacred Harp singing and related taditions, was founded in 1993 and discontinued on June 27, 1997. Although anyone may subscribe, only subscribers can post messages, and all messages will be reviewed by the moderator.
To subscribe to singings, send an empty e-mail from the address at which you wish to receive mail to the following automated-server address:
singings-subscribe@fasola.org
If you wish to subscribe a different address from the one you are using (e.g., if the From: and Reply-to: headers in your outgoing mail are not identical), simply type the subscribing e-mail address after the list name as follows, by adding your preferred e-mail address to the singings-subscribe address, using a hyphen as a separator, and an equal sign instead of a "strudel" to separate your userid from your domain name:
singings-subscribe-John_Doe=best.com@fasola.org

Discussions, a new moderated Internet mailing list with a different focus which complements that of Singings, is administered and moderated by John Bealle, and devoted to the "historical and technical aspects of shape-note singing. Examples of topics include tunebook history, shape note pedagogy, musicological analysis, as well as reviews of books, recordings, articles, and conferences."
